AMBASSADORS OF HELLENISM FOR 2009

Four distinguished academics - Didier Pralon from France, Ioannis Simonidis from the United States, Maria del Amor Lopez Jimeno from Spain and Luo Jinlin from China- were declared Ambassadors of Hellenism for 2009 by the Athens Prefecture in a special ceremony that took place on March 5, at the Athens Concert Hall. 

The Athens Prefecture honoured also the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodore II, for his humanitarian and missionary work while special distinctions were awarded to David Hill, chairman of the International Association for the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures, and to Anthony Snodgrass, Christopher Price, Eleni Cubitt and Marlen Taffarello - all members of the British Committee for the Restitution of the Parthenon Marbles.

» EU Statistics on Women

According to the European Union’s latest report on women’s position  in the economy, education and daily life throughout the E.U, over 250 million women are living in the EU - approximately 5.5 million of them live and work in Greece. Indicating an ageing population - for the year 2008 - more than half the female population both in the EU and Greece is aged 25-64 (54% in the EU and 55% in Greece). 

For the year 2007, the pay gap reported between men and women is 17% for the European Union and 20% for Greece. For every 100 managers, there are 32 women in the European Union 32 and 28 in Greece. Also, the statistics show that both in the EU and Greece, women represent half the student body.
